First of all a bit about myself. My name is Mick Baldry and I am
an english carp angler with over 40 years carp fishing experience. I
began carp fishing in the famous Darenth Valley in Kent at Horton Kirby
in the mid 60's and have fished many waters including Redmire, Ashlea,
DDAPS, Cemex Sutton Lake 2, Johnson's Railway, Walthamstow reservoirs
etc etc.
When Carp Heaven was purchased it was to be the realisation of a lifelong
dream, to own and manage a carp lake run in a way that the carp's welfare
comes first. Also, it is very important to give anglers an honest description
of what to expect during a carp fishing holiday at Carp Heaven. I have
fished many lakes in France and, unfortunately, none lived up to the
over hyped advertisements and fancy glossy brochures. The last lake
my friends and I fished was in May 2003 and was the last straw. It was
so bad that I decided there and then to look for a lake. With my wifes
agreement I travelled much of France looking for a lake. We knew that
it was better to buy a lake and not to lease one from a french farmer.
We have complete control over what happens here. Many of the lakes advertised,
even some of the biggest and most well known are leased from un-predictable
french farmers.
When you book a holiday with Carp Heaven you book with 100% confidence,
directly with the owner, a carp angler who knows this lake inside out.
Carp
Heaven is one of the largest completely independantly UK owned and managed
carp fisheries in France.
Problem number one was finding a suitable lake and it took many months
of searching until we found Etang Gueresse. It was built as a duck shooting
lake but turned out to be the perfect carp lake. It is easy to empty,
it is a manageable size, 15 acres (6 Ha), it has a constant flow of
fresh water from a small stream and underground springs and last but
not least it is absolutely beautiful. We have stocked the correct quantity
of carp in the lake to give the fish room to grow in a natural way and
the addition of pike, zander, perch and the existing stock of black
bass keep the numbers of small carp under control. There are no silver
fish and the poison chat are not so much of a problem. The minimum amount
of tree felling and bank side vegetation removal for swim building has
been done to ensure that the natural look of the lake is not harmed.
The most important assets here are the carp and their welfare is our
number one priority. When we bought the lake there were no carp, just
some black bass, so we had to stock the lake from scratch, so no old
wives tales nonsense of old existing uncaught carp. The initial stocking
went into the lake during January of 2004 and two further stockings
took place during November and December of 2005. To minimise the risk
of introducing any disease there will be no other carp added from an
external source, only selected baby fish born in the lake and reared
in the stock pond will ever be added to this, now, very important stock
of carp.
Carp Heaven is a commercial venture but that does not mean we have to
compromise our beliefs. It would easy to follow the others by overstocking
the lake, spending a fortune on advertising and allowing 15 or more
people here and charging ridiculoius rates. That would completely ruin
our special lake. With 14 swims and only 6 anglers Carp Heaven is never
over-fished.
There is no winter fishing and I feed the fish 750 Kg - 1000 Kg of wheat
and maize during our closed season giving them all a good start to the
following season, fit, healthy and a few pounds heavier!!
There is no hype here, just the facts,
and all queries are answered as honestly as possible.
If you want to travel with a coach load of other people or get stuck
in an un-productive swim or a 60 pounder then Carp Heaven is not for
you.
If, on the other hand you want a tranquil carp fishing holiday in France
on a spacious 15 acre lake with a maximum of only 6 anglers catching
beautiful carp using normal carp fishing methods at a beautiful location
then Carp Heaven is exactly the place for you. Because of the lack of
pressure very few people leave here without catching any fish (so far
only 2 people have ever blanked here) and the fish are growing all the
time. When there is a 60 pounder in Carp Heaven it will have grown here,
hopefully, from one of our baby fish.
